Five of the best burger joints in Glasgow

Who doesn’t love burgers, right? I think it’s safe to say Glaswegians are big burger fans, with St Vincent Street unofficially renamed as ‘Burger Street’ and so many national burger chains opening recently. But which places should we avoid, and which should we flock to…?

I think it’s fair to say that Bread Meats Bread is known to most as the best place for a burger in Glasgow. Their fast, friendly service paired with their incredible quality meat makes for a dream combination. The menu has more than just burgers though, with their delicious (and huge) poutines also proving to be extremely popular!

Make sure you try… The Wolf of St Vincent Street! It’s their signature burger, topped with American cheese, crispy bacon, pulled pork in BBQ sauce, crispy fried onions and N’Duja with Sriracha mayo!

DogHouse is a regular spot of mine because Sam is obsessed with BrewDog, he even has shares which he bought at the bar one day while intoxicated! What started out as a simple smoked meat menu when they first opened has expanded to include a range of delicious burgers made with beef brisket from Simon Howie butchers of Perth, along with a range of free range chicken burgers.

Make sure you try… The Jackpot – a beef brisket patty with chorizo, black pudding, blue cheese and BBQ sauce!

I love Meat Bar, and I always feel like it’s a forgotten spot, despite serving up some top-quality meat. Along with their premium steaks and smoked meats, they also do a range of burgers created from three different cuts of the finest Scottish beef. If you’re on a low-carb diet, they can provide all their burgers sans bun, although where’s the fun in that?

Make sure you try… The Double Dip, which is not for the faint-hearted! It consists of a beef patty, thinly sliced beef brisket in gravy, smoked cheddar, caramelised onion, pickle, French mustard and an extra boat of pouring gravy!

The Mad Chef at Bloc+ is a master at creating something filthy and delicious. From creating a veggie hot dog that even the most carnivorous of us were drooling over, to mastering Buckfast ice cream, his menu is the stuff of dreams. The delicious menu is also great value, and there are regular offers throughout the week to stop you from breaking the bank.

Make sure you try…Oh so many things! The Mad Mac deserves a mention, for his reinvention of the McDonalds classic, but the infamous Not Dog is also worth a try!

I think Glasgow is VERY excited about El Perro Negro finding themselves a new home, after providing us with some of the greatest pop up events for burger lovers! Their events have been so successful, they usually sell out and are always met with fantastic reviews and drool worthy food. They’re keeping the location and the opening date of their new digs pretty quiet, so stay tuned…
